Abbey Fuelcardsis proud to sponsor Oxfordshire young people’s charity activeTEN20 by covering the fuel costs of its new mobile information services vehicle – the Active Bus.
activeTEN20 (previously known as OAYP) is designed to reach out to young people across the county, and the new Active Bus will be a significant asset in helping the charity maintain and develop its services within the community. The new vehicle was officially unveiled by the charity's President, His Grace the Duke of Marlborough, DL, at the charity’s Annual General Meeting on Monday 16th October.
Through the provision of relevant information, training, sporting and recreational opportunities, the aim of activeTEN20 is to help and encourage young people, irrespective of their geographic, social or economic status, to realise their potential as individuals and as members of the community.
Staffed by trained youth information workers, the Active Bus will provide a safe, fun, friendly and independent space for young people to meet and discuss issues that are relevant to their needs.
Abbey Chairman Bob Sturgess commented,
'Abbey is all about helping organisations manage their fuel costs, and keep them as low as possible. We are therefore very pleased to help activeTEN20 provide its extremely valuable service throughout the county by covering the fuel costs of the Active Bus.'
activeTEN20’s services are organised into three departments:
- Active Bodies, which promotes the benefits for young people to become active and healthy and provides a wide range of opportunities to help all young people in Oxfordshire to get involved in activities in their local area, as well as gaining skills and qualifications to organise and run activities in their own communities.
- Active Minds, which offers impartial advice, information and workshops, around specific issues relating to young people. These include: Drugs/Alcohol, Sexual Health, Relationships, Healthy Lifestyles, Bullying, Behavioural Issues, Self Esteem, Careers, etc.
- Active Clubs, providing training and support to volunteers involved in running youth groups located within rural communities throughout Oxfordshire. Through its affiliation scheme, activeTEN20 now supports the work of over 40 projects working with young people and children across the county – that’s over 200 volunteers and 1500 young people.
